Chapter Seventeen

Nina

I did not know that worlds could be rocked like that. Every muscle in my body ached from last night, and yet I couldn’t wait to do it again. Thanks to the overload of windows in every room of this house, including the primary bedroom, we were blinded by the early morning light.

“We didn’t even need Blackheart to wake us up so dang early,” I muttered, pulling up a sheet to my chin.

Beckett laughed, rolling over to look at me. “We probably should have figured out how to work the blinds. But I have to admit that it’s nice turning over to see you next to me.”

My heart hammered in my chest as he reached over to slip another kiss along my cheek. Spending last night with him felt amazing, both spiritually and physically.

“I just thought of something,” I groaned.

“What’s that?”

“Since Nate babysat the rooster, the entire town is going to know we spent the night away together.”

“Nah,” Beckett said, laughing. “I texted him that the snow was coming down too hard. As an officer of the law, he totally understood. Said as much.”

My brows quirked. “Did he now?”

Beckett nodded. “Told me he’d seen enough of what could happen if a person didn’t respect the weather.”

I giggled and put the sheet over my head. “I bet he did.”

“Okay. You’re right. The entire town will know, won’t they?” Beckett tugged the sheet away from me and peppered kisses across my bare breasts.

“At least you’re headed back to Paris and won’t have to hear the whispers,” I teased.

He sat up, and tenderness filled his gaze. “Leaving isn’t as appealing as it once was.”

I grinned, pulling the sheet back up.

Beckett cradled my head in his hands and softly kissed me. Tingles erupted from my lips to my toes, and I couldn’t help but smile.

He pulled away slowly.

“Can I ask you something?”

“What’s that?” My eyes met his, and my heart fluttered.

“Would you think I’m crazy for wanting to spend every second with you until I leave?”

The thrill of the question lingered as my mind rolled his question around, and my heart clung to it.

“Your family might not be very happy with me.” My body stretched with his as we both laid on our sides.

“Something tells me they’d be extremely happy.”

“You have less than a week here. By the time you board your plane, you might be glad to be rid of me.”

He propped himself on his elbow. “I know that’s impossible.”

“Why’s that?”

“You tickle my brain.”

I let out a happy sigh and smiled. “I know myself pretty well, and I can be exhausting, stubborn, and ditzy.”

Beckett let out a low growl, which made my entire body heat up as he studied me quietly for a few seconds. “I happen to love being exhausted by you. Your stubbornness is actually discipline.”

“What about forgetting where I put my keys or losing my cell all the time?” I reminded him.

“It’s adorable.”

“For now,” I warned.

Part of me wanted to believe everything coming out of Beckett’s mouth made sense, but it didn’t.
